Danielle dabbled in yoga classes for years believing that yoga just "wasn't for me" until she discovered power yoga. As an avid runner and triathlete, its immediate appeal was that it was athletic in nature and flow. At the time she was training for her first marathon and immediately saw the physical benefits "a little yoga" provided. But on race day, approaching mile 20, with legs burning and fatigue setting in, her yoga instructor's words "it's only a sensation" echoed clearly in her mind. At that moment, it was clear that yoga was benefitting her beyond a physical level, even the most basic yogic philosophies were filtering into her daily life.
Within months yoga became a daily practice-a perfect compliment to both the mental and physical impact running, biking and swimming took on both her body and mind. Her relationship with yoga grew even deeper when she suffered an injury in October 2009 which left her unable to run for over six months. Yoga provided her with a means for physical activity during this time but it also "strengthened my mental clarity, helped me find patience during this frustrating ordeal and taught me to let go of situations that are beyond my control. These lessons were taught through an injury but have filtered into how I handle situations with people I care about…and even people I don't know."
Soon after incorporating Power Yoga into her life, she knew she wanted to pass the gift she was given on to other people so in February 2010, she began her journey of teacher training at Power Yoga Works in Philadelphia. Through this experience, her relationship with yoga has grown to an even deeper level as she is learning more and more the "why" of why all this "yoga stuff" works. "I always believed in connections between the mind and the body but yoga has proven to me that this connection exists and it is powerful."
For her, life is about the journey, not the destination, and in the short time yoga has been a part of her life, "I have been on a journey beyond my wildest dreams." Danielle is grateful to have this journey take her to teaching at Linda's Power Yoga and looks forward to deepening her yoga practice as both a teacher and a student. |
